Join the fabulous Zimmi from Weaving Nature to create your own unique basket using the local Bangalow palm.

Learn the simple techniques that will allow you to transform natural fibres, straight from the plant, into a utilitarian basket or sculptural object.

This workshop is designed for both adults and children. There are just a couple of simple steps needed to transform the leathery Bangalow sheath into a unique container. The texture, color, shape of this material will amaze and delight you. This form pays respect to the indigenous water carrying containers of the East Coast natural world people.

Zimmi from Weaving Nature is a professional basket weaver with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Her teaching techniques are flexible and broad, speaking to each students individual way of learning. Zimmi will breakdown each stage of the making process so that students can work methodological or experimentally through the basket. Zimmi will also share her knowledge of the history of Australian basketry, terminology and ethics.

All materials and equipment will be supplied….what you will learn will allow you to go out and forage for yourselves from very easy to find materials.
