Saturday 25th June, a one day open surfing event with field of 32 including men’s & women’s competitors invited to compete in memory of Michael Peterson. The Kirra Surfriders Club is hosting the Rip Curl MP Classic Invitational this Saturday 25th June as a one-day event in memory of Michael Peterson, one of the greatest surfing champions to emerge from Coolangatta. And it just so happens to be on his Mums Joan’s 90th birthday. To be held in the best possible waves in Coolangatta. Forecast is good for a clean 4 – 5ft ESE swell with SW – SE winds. Bio on Michael Peterson. A legendary Coolangatta cult figure won two National title 72/75, three consecutive Bells Beach Easter Pro 73 – 75, Coke Classic 74, Pa Bendall 75, and a 1992 inductee of Surfing Australia’s Hall of Fame. Michael was a proficient and progressive surfboard shaper with a sharp eye for detail, shaping his own boards under his own popular label.
