Step into the luscious Spring Bellydance Temple for this series of monthly holistic bellydance workshops, facilitated by Malika Moon (Fusion Bellydance teacher & embodied movement facilitator) & Gopali Doyle (Yoga teacher, Ayurvedic Practitioner & the custodian of Free Flow Yoga & Health studio).

The inspiration for these workshops is to bring intention into an embodied movement practice, allowing us to activate & deepen our experience within it. With each workshop we curate a unique ritual, yoga & bellydance journey that is aligned to the current seasonal & astrological themes.

We will open the space with a short ritual to set the tone for our practice (this can include guided meditation, mantra, breathwork, intention setting etc); flowing into a gentle yoga-dance fusion warm up, followed by some conditioning movements to reawaken our inner fire & core. Gradually we’ll move from mat to floor, where we will ride a wave from energizing bellydance drills into the more sensual slow serpentine bellydance movements. Then melting deeper from slowness into stillness with a deeply meditative, gentle yin yoga practice to cool down.

The journey will come to a close as we transition out of our yin practice to some nourishing sister connection, whilst sharing tea and a delicious healthy ayurvedic meal (included in the ticket price, GF & Vegan).

This will be a mixed levels workshop with the dance component focused mainly around drilling foundational & advanced beginner movements & patterns. New students are absolutely welcome! However the workshops won’t be quite as slow paced as Malika’s beginner classes (although a short breakdown of movements will still be included). A great opportunity to dip your toe in to get a feel for her classes if you’re new, whilst also connecting with some of the local bellydance community.

Malika will facilitate the Bellydance & Conditioning component of the event in her sharp & slinky Fusion Bellydance style. Whilst Gopali will bring her many years of experience and unique gifts to facilitate our ritual & yoga practice. She will also be bringing her expertise in Ayurveda to create our divine cacao-elixir and nourishing meals.

Note for Beginners: Whilst it may seem intimidating to beginners to attend a dance workshop of this duration, great care is taken in the planning of the movement component to ensure movements are spread across the entire body so it is manageable and not excessively strenuous. The cacao will also give you a powerful boost of energy to help keep you going too. However, a basic level of health & fitness is recommended to get through this workshop.

This contemporary expression of Bellydance is powerful, sensual and mesmerising. With slow snake-like movements and hypnotising hip rhythms, gateways to healing are opened through sacral activation and embodied presence.

Having journeyed deep into the underworld of her own shadows, Malika’s movement experience expands beyond linear knowledge and the 10+ years she’s been bellydancing.

After decades living in paralytic fear, overwhelming shame and total disconnection from the heart and body, Malika found her way onto a deep healing path which immediately became intricately entwined with her Bellydance journey.

Malika’s experience in trauma and mental health have created her gentle & compassionate facilitating style; and her devotion to evolution via presence & embodiment is woven throughout her Bellydance offerings. Malika utilizes her deep connection to music, rhythm & the energetics of sound to create a mindfully curated musical journey of neo-beats that is in synch with each of her unique expressions of the dance.

Gopali is an incredibly earthy, warm and inspiring teacher who touches the heart of all who practice with her. She is passionate about cultivating a safe space for people to explore embodied movement, and is deeply inspired by music and dance which is reflected in her beautiful fluid classes. Her classes create a space to reconnect with oneself via the dance between movement and breath.

Gopali has studied with Shiva Rea and has a passion and deep knowledge of the healing science of Ayurveda. She believes firmly in the profound capacity nature has to heal on all levels and although she is a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner she considers herself forever a student of the “science of life” ( Ayurveda).
