7 ways to be all Loved Up in The Tweed

10 February, 2021

Making some grand plans for romance as we near that special heart-filled day in February?

Well, here in the Tweed, we like to think that love is an everyday thing so get your rose petals, picnic rug and best bubbles ready to create some swoon-worthy moments, any day of the year.

Cuddle at sunset with valley views or wake to first light rising over the sea. And in between, book a special dinner for two or cocktails with a view, set a sweet picnic spread or a take a sunshine-filled cycle.

Here’s our seven loved-up tips to get your spirit of amore underway!

  1. Snuggle up and sleep in

Step one to feeling the love is a sleep over! Nothing says restful romance more than a calm country cabin or plush beachfront penthouse for a night or two, and you’ll find plenty of cosy options awaiting.

If seaside is where your heart shines, you’re spoilt for choice in the Tweed with a string of coastal towns to embrace. In Kingscliff, ease into a luxurious Bale Apartment at Peppers Salt Resort or breathe in the sea air from your rooftop spa apartment at Paradiso.

In nearby Cabarita, nestle in to your very own boho glamping tent at Hideaway, spoil yourself at super-luxe Halcyon House or take in sweeping views from an indulgent penthouse at The Beach Cabarita.

Rainforest vistas, peaceful bird-calls and starry nights more your style? Take to the hills and discover retreats just made for romance. From a lush sanctuary at Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat and a lover’s idyll at Mt Warning Estate or La Rocher in Uki to the bucolic charm of Hillcrest Mountain View Retreat, love is definitely in the Tweed valley air!

  1. Table for two

Grown, prepared and shared with love, the Tweed’s culinary offerings are right on cue for occasions of the heart. Here’s our tips to get your appetite started!

Share a meal at one of the Tweed’s esteemed hatted restaurants – award-winning Pipit in Pottsville, a seaside menu at Paper Daisy, garden-to-plate goodness with Potager in the Carool Hills and, in Kingscliff, choose from modern fare at Season, Greek plates at Taverna or seafood heaven at Fins.

To really get into the V Day spirit this year, head to picturesque Husk Distillers for a 3-course sharing menu paired with gin and rum sips or book at the beloved Mavis’s Kitchen for a 5-course degustation complete with a lover’s quiz and glass of bubbly.

Or celebrate love amongst the fertile fields of Tropical Fruit World with a charcuterie board for two, featuring Tweed cheeses, meats, pickled farm fruits and in-house hand-made chocolates, plus local mango beer or a dragon fruit and prosecco icy pole!

  1. Romantic spots for sunset

Choose to keep it simple and let nature create the amorous ambience for you! Simply pack a blanket, bring a bottle and exhale together at last light. Here’s our guide to some great spots to smooch at sunset!

  1. Free-wheeling feels

Channel the exhilaration and freedom of love with a day out cycling in the sunshine along our stunning coastal pathways.

Hire a bike or BYO your own pedals to meander along the flat and fun tracks that traverse the Tweed’s eastern beaches, from Kingscliff in the north through to Cabarita Beach further south (24km return).

On a warm day, you can stop along the way for a splash in the waves or park up your bike for lunch at Kingscliff Beach Hotel or Cabarita Beach Surf Club.

  1. You are my sunshine

Flowers and love are synonymous right? So it makes complete sense to get amongst some colourful fields while celebrating with your dearest.

Don’t miss the insta-famous Farm & Co sunflower fields in the fertile pastures of Cudgen – blooming intermittently during the year so check ahead to avoid disappointment! While there, order some healthy and delicious bites from a vegetarian menu full of just-picked farm produce.

Also on any garden-lovers’ must-visit list is the expansive Garden of Light in Tyalgum, an homage to some of the world’s finest fields and a heart-filled 25 acres that includes a Monet-inspired setting. You can also order ahead for a champagne lunch for two or a picnic basket to while away some time breathing in the beauty.

  1. Picnic hit-list

From simple garden picnics, to styled locales or even cruising picnics, you can sip and sup together just about anywhere in the Tweed’s great outdoors.

Create your own basket of goodness by visiting one of our local food and farmers markets, deli stores or farm-gates. Or to take all the work out of it, book in with a professional picnic-maker!

Award-winning Blue Ginger Picnics can create your ultimate dream-date, with cosy rugs, plush cushions and 100% delicious local Tweed produce, all set and ready for you both to recline and reconnect. Think rolling green hills overlooking a coffee estate to a cruising picnic on water along the Tweed River – romance deluxe!
