Join artist Ellie Beck from Petal Plumb to create a beautiful hand stitched pouch to carry your precious everyday items.

Slow down in the museum this Autumn with artist Ellie Beck from Petal Plumb and create a beautiful hand-stitched pouch to carry your precious everyday items. A workshop inspired by our current textile exhibition, Social Fabric.

Ellie will guide you through the creative process, tapping into your personal expression as you construct your unique pouch from linens and recycled special fabrics.

You will also learn different stitching styles using various fabrics and types of thread, as well as sustainable approaches to sewing; all of which you can take home and be creative on your other hand sewing projects.

We encourage you to bring along a friend or family member and create together. This is an intergenerational workshop for people over 8 years, especially for children and their caregivers.

Suitable for ages 8 y/o +

Children under 12 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

About Ellie Beck

Ellie is an artist, author, creative maker & educator. Ellie love’s the quiet of crafting & art-making alone, but also feel energised by spending time with other creatives sharing time together, stitch by stitch, word by word. Her work and workshops take the form of writing, textiles, photography, or a whole lot of unfinished pieces that never see the light of day.

Visit Ellie Beck’s website for more info.

About the Social Fabric exhibition

Social Fabric displays some of the Museum’s never before seen clothing collection. Each garment tells a surprising and unexpected story. Drag queen gowns, mermaid costumes, military uniforms and lacy corsets all chronicle the social history of fashion and dressmaking in the Tweed.
