Details

Come join us for a Farm Walk & Talk at the beautiful Green Cauldron Farm.

This farm walk and talk is a two for one! You will meet not one, but two young passionate farmers who lease land at Green Cauldron Farm.

Firstly, Dave Warne will give us a tour of their amazing market garden operation which they take pride on being sustainable, profitable, organic and low till. With the help of a Council Sustainable Agriculture Small Grant, Dave has been trialing the use of breathable tarps (weed gunnel) and compost between crops to manage weeds and minimise the use of the rotary hoe to maintain and improve soil health.

Secondly, Aidan Quick will talk all thing bees! Aidan and his team run an apiary operation of 160 hives in various locations across the Tweed Shire, including Green Cauldron Farm. To deal with the threat of Varroa Mite and climate change, Aidan received a Sustainable Agriculture Small Grant to introduce a new range of queen bee subspecies into their hives to increase genetic diversity and therefore increase the operations resilience to pests, disease and climate extremes.

Don’t miss hearing from these inspiring and innovative local farmers.
