THE TWEED TOPS NORTH COAST TOURISM AWARDS
The Tweed’s tourism stars were shining bright last Friday night at the North Coast Tourism Awards held in Port Macquarie.
Three Tweed region tourism operators took out the top honours with a Gold Award win for Potager – A Kitchen Garden for Excellence in Food Tourism, Northern Rivers Rail Trail (Tweed Section) – Outstanding Tourism Start Up and Yen Trinh from Pipit Restaurant – Outstanding Tourism Business Leader.
Potager – A Kitchen Garden was also awarded the prestigious Business of the Year, awarded to a business that has been judged to be an outstanding business, providing an awards entry that demonstrates achievements and excellence over and above all other entrants. Potager owner Peter Burr said “We were naturally so excited to win Gold for Excellence in Food Tourism for the second year running. To go on to win Business of The Year made me so very proud of my team and all that we have accomplished together. It’s amazing recognition from our North Coast peers”.
The Northern Rivers Rail Trail has been a game changer for The Tweed. On accepting the award Tiffany Stodart, Manager Destination, Communication and Customer Experience said “The Northern Rivers Rail Trail is a shining example of what good investment in regional tourism can deliver in terms of economic and social benefits. Tweed Shire Council is proud to be the first section open and be recognised as Outstanding Tourism Start Up for the Northern Rivers Rail Trail.”
Outstanding Tourism Business Leader Yen Trinh said of her win “Beyond just food and wine, we really advocate for a wider regional view in sustainable restaurants, local suppliers and supporting young chefs. I see lots of entrepreneurial spirit across our region’s tourism businesses – just people with ideas that are giving it a go! We are proud to be a part of that business community.”
Also recognised during the awards evening with Silver Awards were Osteria Weddings – Event Venue of the Year, Tasman Holiday Parks North Star – Excellence in Glamping &/or Camping, Pipit Restaurant – Excellence in Food Tourism, Husk Farm Distillery – Excellence in wineries, distilleries and breweries and Hirehood for Outstanding Tourism Start Up.
Acknowledged with a Bronze Award were Watersports Guru – Tour & Transport Operator and Tweed Regional Museum for Excellence Innovation.
Ancora Weddings, Farm & Co Restaurant, Better By Bike and Jodha Bai Retreat were also finalists in their respective categories, rounding out the strong Tweed presence at the awards.
Sally Scott, General Manager of The Tweed Tourism Company, said that “the results were a testament to the hard work, resilience and ingenuity of The Tweed tourism businesses and our congratulations go to each recipient for their unwavering commitment to the industry and dedication to achieving tourism excellence.”
