Details
Watergum Community Cane Toad Busting – Pottsville
Tweed Shire Council has partnered with not-for-profit community environment group Watergum to bring cane toad control to the Tweed this season.
Cane toads in the Tweed cause declines in our native wildlife, poison domestic pets and have negative impacts on our local agricultural industries.
Join our Community Toad Bust on Friday, 15th November at 7.30pm (AEDT) in Pottsville and work together to control cane toads! This is a great activity for the whole family.
Meeting location: Pottsville Environmental Park, at the end of Centennial Drive.
Come along to meet some like-minded individuals, learn some new toad busting skills and make a difference for our environment! This event will also be the induction for our new citizen science project, where we’ll be measuring the impacts of toad busting on local toad populations.
How the event will run:
Watergum staff will welcome you with a brief educational talk, followed by an overview and induction of our citizen science study. Then we will split into groups and work together to clear the park of as many cane toads as we can!
Please wear closed in shoes and appropriate clothing for the outdoors at night. If you have a toad busting kit, please bring it along on the night! If not, Watergum will have gear available to use.
Thanks to Tweed Shire Council, we will have some prizes to give away to the teams who collect the most toads on the night!
Toad busting kit equipment:
- Bucket with a lid
- Rubber or garden gloves
- Torch
- Pick up stick optional
We can’t wait to see you there and work together to make a real difference!
Spaces are limited so please register to attend.
