THE TWEED IS SERVED – INAUGURAL SAVOUR THE TWEED EVENT OFFICIALLY OPENS

Savour The Tweed, Australia’s newest food and drink event, has officially opened with launch festivities taking place at the Murwillumbah Farmers Market, home to the first of the 5-day event’s 20+ ticketed offerings.

On from Wednesday 30 October to Sunday 3 November, the inaugural Savour The Tweed event is a dynamic showcase of The Tweed’s culinary excellence and unparalleled food and drink provenance, with a packed program reflecting the region’s growing profile as a leading epicurean destination.

A partnership between Tweed Shire Council and The Tweed Tourism Company to boost regional tourism, Savour The Tweed will welcome visitors from interstate and across New South Wales for a first taste of Australia’s most-talked-about new food and drink event.

The event has also received State Government funding support via Destination NSW’s Regional Event Fund Incubator Event Stream for 2024-2025.

Sally Scott, General Manager of The Tweed Tourism Company, said that the invaluable support along with significant national media interest in Savour The Tweed had helped to ensure the inaugural event was set for success.

“We are excited to be delivering an important culinary event for The Tweed that has captured the attention of national food and travel media and helped us to secure strong event-driven visitation for the region,” she said.

“As a five-day event, our media and marketing activity has positioned Savour The Tweed as the perfect long-weekend getaway for foodies, with tickets across the program snapped up by visitors from Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.”

“It’s great to see that many people coming to Savour The Tweed are also purchasing multiple event tickets across the 5 days, indicating a boost to overnight visitation. This not only supports our local accommodation providers but also flows through to tours, attractions and local cafes and restaurants as people map out their stay around Savour The Tweed events.”

Savour The Tweed‘s inaugural program, co-curated by acclaimed chef and author Christine Manfield and Amy Colli of Straight To The Source, champions locally grown and made flavours and innovative chefs and restaurateurs, with a focus on healthy and sustainable food practices and ethical farming.

Ms Manfield said that Savour The Tweeds program unearths the diverse and distinctive talents, tastes and terroir of the region, tapping into the growing demand for fresh, local flavours and a genuine approach to sustainability.

“In curating the Savour The Tweed program, we wanted to reflect the true spirit of the region’s remarkable food and drink scene, highlighting seasonal produce and native ingredients and The Tweed’s many talented chefs and food and drink artisans.”

“Following the program launch back in July, we’re thrilled that Savour The Tweed has resonated so strongly with people, with almost 90% of tickets snapped up and many events sold out, from a First Nations welcome dinner to restaurant events, cooking classes, paired tastings and fun parties.”

Mayor of Tweed Shire Chris Cherry said she couldn’t wait to experience Savour the Tweed over the coming days.

“The Tweed is not just a beautiful place to live but the rich, fertile soil and abundant seafood off our coastline make this a culinary hotspot of note,” Cr Cherry said.

Savour the Tweed carefully combines the region’s incredible produce while championing those who bring it to life and Tweed Shire Council is proud to have partnered with The Tweed Tourism Company to deliver and curate this signature food event for our region.

“Congratulations to all involved and I encourage everyone to truly Savour the Tweed by dipping into the many events on offer to find out why The Tweed is one of Australia’s leading food and drink destinations.”
