Details

Tweed Shire has 444 officially homeless people, and a further 468 people in improvised or crowded dwellings, or “marginally housed” in caravan parks and currently has one of the highest homeless rates in NSW.

The Sleepout hopes to raise awareness and to raise $45,000 for Fred’s Place.

That’s why Fred’s Place is so crucial as it is the only drop-in centre in the local region and is run by just 4 permanent staff members (and a Indigenous trainee) and is fully funded by donations.

Since April 2022 Fred’s Place has provided the following per day:100 hot meals, 32 food hampers per day, 30 frozen meals, 12 laundry facilities and  24 shower facilities per day.

You can register to sleep out as a team with your family, friends, colleagues, sports club, business or as an individual and let’s unite in solidarity to make a real difference and help us raise crucial funds for our local community!

The event is a no-frills affair that is all about spending one night in the shoes of people doing it tough. Participants are given nothing more than a sheet of cardboard and a cup of soup
before hearing from guest speakers and braving the cold, bedding down for the night.
