Details

Tweed Shire currently has some of the highest rates of homelessness in NSW. Tweed has 529 officially homeless people, 195 of which sleep rough or in improvised dwellings such as tents.

As well as living in poverty many of these local people – women, men, young people, families – don’t have regular access to the necessities and this impacts on personal dignity, health and wellbeing, prospects of getting a job and forming social relationships, even on their mental health.

It is critical that we provide people experiencing homelessness and those at risk of homelessness with the support to rebuild their lives and reconnect with the community especially in these pandemic times.

That’s why Fred’s Place is so crucial as it is the only drop-in centre in the local region and is run by just 5 permanent staff members (and an Indigenous trainee) and is fully funded by donations

Since April 2023 Fred’s Place has provided the following:
• 115 hot meals per day
• 25 food hampers per day
• 31 frozen meals per day
• 20 laundry facilities per day
• 29 shower facilities per day

How you can help
By registering to sleep out and fundraising, you will be part of the solution and leading the fight against homelessness.

The event is a night for EVERYONE – local community members, corporate partners, club members, sports personalities, government representatives and more to band together to help those in our community who need it the most.

The 2022 Fred’s Place Community Sleepout raised over $80,000 – truly surpassing the $40,000 goal set before the event.

If you can’t sleep out, please give a donation by clicking the ‘Give Now’ button on the upper left of our website. Every little bit helps!

We wish to acknowledge the Ngandowal and Minyungbal speaking people of the Bundjalung Country, in particular the Goodjinburra, Tul-gi-gin and Moorung – Moobah clans, as being the traditional owners and custodians of the land and waters within the Tweed Shire boundaries. We also acknowledge and respect the Tweed Aboriginal community’s right to speak for its Country and to care for its traditional Country in accordance with its lores, customs and traditions.
