About

The story of the rise and fall of a Scottish lord is one of the Bard’s most enduring tragedies, played endlessly onstage and in film.

Macbeth, full title The Tragedie of Macbeth by William Shakespeare is thought to have been first performed in 1606. It is set in medieval Scotland and partly based on a true historical account. Macbeth charts the bloody rise to power and tragic downfall of the warrior Macbeth. It dramatises the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power.
