Details

The Gallery is thrilled to host a special screening of the 2023 Makers’ Film Festival at the Regent Cinema in Murwillumbah!

The MFF23 is an international short film festival dedicated to craft on the big screen. This year’s program is jam-packed with 17 short films selected from Mallorca, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Singapore, India, Australia and New Zealand. The entire MFF23 program is only 90 minutes long, screened in two parts with an interval, and films range in duration from one to ten minutes.

The film-making and story-telling approaches are as varied as the craft disciplines presented. Interviews, documentaries, and stop motion animations uncover traditions, skills, and consequences in a glorious survey of making – furniture, public art, textiles, baskets, ceramics, glass, jewellery, and more.

Watching craft at cinema scale is an occasion to focus our attention on how we interact with crafted objects. Handmakers wrangle with their creative process, traditions, materials, and tools to produce a form that is as individual as they are. We have the joy of sitting on, supping from, wearing, holding, admiring or even wandering through these forms.

Enjoy the charming atmosphere of the recently refurbished Regent Cinema in all its authentic Art Deco glory. Popcorn, snacks and beverages are available for purchase.

Children under 12 years are free but must be accompanied by an adult.

In celebration of the 2023 Seniors Festival 11-24 March, Seniors who purchase a ticket may bring a friend for free (we will have a plus one for you at the door).

The Makers Film Festival is produced by Maker & Smith
