Mist Gallery presents – Josette Macpherson – Falling Water (June 22 – 29)
Opening drinks and meet the artist – Saturday 24 June 1pm to 3pm
Falling water is an exploration of rain, waterways and waterfalls of the Northern Rivers region and as a reaction to the rain and flood events of 2022. After significant rain the run-off from the mountains feeds into the waterfalls and eventually travels down the creeks and rivers into the ocean. What was once bright and blue turns murky and brown.
There was so much devastation and loss caused by the powerful force of falling water, as a people it affected all of us in different ways. For an artist, painting aids the process of understanding and processing such a surreal time that we lived through only a year ago.
I have been painting water for almost 5 years and my fascination only grows. Painting waterways began as a way to explore the ever changing, living and flowing landscape that we incorporate into our daily lifestyle here on the Tweed and surrounding regions.
BIO
Josette studied fine art in Sydney, before relocating to the Tweed Coast in 2012.
In the last ten years she has pursued mainly commission based work until her recent solo show in April 2022 at Lone Goat Gallery, Byron Bay.
Her work explores the unique beauty of local coastlines, waterways and mountain ranges of the Northern regions of New South Wales, with a focus on topography and geography. Using a mix of acrylic, oils and cold wax medium on rough hand-stretched linen, she paints in a unique abstract language with organic lines, shapes and texture.
