Artist Statement

The vast, open skies of Northern NSW, with their ever-changing colours and moods, evoke a wide range of emotions in me – from awe and wonder to a sense of tranquility. The early dawn elicits a sense of the divine or the spiritual.

It is these emotional responses that serve as a powerful motivator to capture the essence of the Australian landscape on canvas. The play of light and shadow, the interplay of clouds, and the way the landscape meets the horizon, offers endless inspiration.

Born in Ayr, Queensland in 1953, Scott McDougall trained as an art teacher working as a senior subject master and curriculum consultant. He has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in even more group shows since 1979. He has been represented by Mist Gallery since 2020, and has continued to astound his audiences with his attention to detail in all his artworks. Scott McDougall is a contemporary realist painter.
