Details

Explore the Museum’s current exhibition Social Fabric  and enjoy a range of self-guided and hands-on activities in the our Play Space’s.

Social Fabric displays some of the Museum’s never before seen clothing collection. Each garment tells a surprising and unexpected story. Drag queen gowns, mermaid costumes, military uniforms and lacy corsets all chronicle the social history of fashion and dressmaking in the Tweed.

The Dressing Room

Rummage through our Social Fabric clothes and hat racks in The Dressing Room. Touch, try on, learn or reminisce about these vintage pieces from the 1940s through to the 1990s.

Transform into a mermaid, caped crusader, hipster, king or mix and match pieces from each era and create a your very own unique style. Strike a pose in front of our mirror lit with Hollywood lights, and capture and share your fun style!

Socail Fabric Kids exhibition guide and Fashion activity

Pick up your doll-shaped Social Fabric kids exhibition guide and take a journey through the exhibition with Museum Mate ‘Storm’.

Explore the exquisite clothing exhibition from Tweed Regional Museum’s collection showcasing handmade dresses, a dolphin mascot outfit, Brownie uniform and more. Each garment tells a surprising and unexpected story.

Then enter The Dressing Room in our play space upstairs with all your inspiration and dress your paper doll in some cut-out clothes and hair. Don’t forget to give them a face!

Slow Stitch Collaboration

Take some time out to slow down and contribute your unique stitching to our continuous fabric roll, inspired by our current exhibition Social Fabric. In the 19th century young women completed stitch samplers to show they were able to do simple embroidery, plain sewing and darning (repairs to holes in clothes). Try contributing your own modern spin on the stitch sampler and stitch a boat, a flower, a pattern, a person, a tree…. anything you like!

Drop in. Self-guided fun.
Children under 12 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
